Kayuni eyes Moliati’s lightweight belt

Lightweight champion Crispin Moliati faces strong test as he faces Malani Kayuni in a title fight on June 30at Lilongwe Golf Club (LGC).

Malani, younger brother to Osgood, has challenged Moliati and Fast Boxing Promotions have agreed to promote the bout.

The two boxer’s rivalry has intensified in recent times. They have fought twice in the last six months. Malani won the first fight which took place in Mzuzu while Moliati avenged the loss in a rematch in Lilongwe.

The title fight is billed at K250 000, with Moliati’s as reigning champion pocketing K150 000 and the challenger to earn K100 000.

One of Fast Boxing Promotions directors, Leonard Metazama, said they decided to organise the fight after receiving Malani’s challenge.

“These are promising boxers in the country and we thought of promoting the fight just to nurture them and at the same time settle their rivalry once and for all,” said Metazama.

Moliati said he is ready to defend the belt.

“He is not a threat and I am not even shaken. I want to put up my best performance and I will dedicate the win to my fiancée,” said Moliati who is set to marry his sweetheart of four years, Eliza Dzombe, in October.

“After dispatching Malani, I want to challenge Osgood . I believe I can beat Osgood. He is not the same boxer anymore. He struggled to beat Masamba last Saturday. He is no longer in shape and I will deal with all the Kayunis,” said Moliati.
